We would consider this to be the Best of the Best for a Colorado Elk Hunt. Our Winner as well as a second hunter of his/her choice will experience something truly special on this hunt. These are Ranching For Wildlife tags which are only made available to large landowners to operate Elk Hunts on their private property. This Outfitter’s land is located right on the largest Elk Migration route in Colorado and the number of Elk found here is beyond one’s imagination.
Our winner and additional guest hunter will be primarily hunting the Rippy’s also known as Northfork ranch. This portion of the ranch consists of 37,000 acres which borders the Routt National Forest and is right on the major migration route. This migration route means every Elk in the entire basin migrates directly through the center of this ranch.
This Outfitter does not typically have any of these hunts available as he is always sold out due to his extremely high success rate. They have guided hunters on private land for over 40 years and have never had a year yet where their success rate has dipped below 90%. In 2025 they guided a total of 132 hunters and harvested 130 Bull Elk. This Outfitter now has over 130,000 acres registered in the State Ranching for Wildlife program. Over the last 40 years this outfitter has amassed a remarkable harvest percentage of 90% on branch-antlered bull elk. That’s an impressive record! Their average bulls range from 2.5-4 years old, and 240”-290” with the occasional 300”+ bull. Most bull elk here will be good respectable 5x5s and 6x6s, and some exceptional elk. Hunters often choose to pass multiple bulls over several days of their hunt.
RFW (Ranching for Wildlife) ranches are NOT fenced, but are intensively managed under the control of biologists and the State of Colorado. By enrolling in the RFW program, the outfitter gets more flexibility as the landowner/Outfitter is allowed to set his own seasons and can directly issue licenses to clients. NO DRAW! Due to the outfitter’s commitment to wildlife, cover, water and food management, and complete control of the property borders and boundaries, there is an amazing number of trophy elk available to clients.
